Garcinia Cambogia Dr OzOn his daily show, Dr. Oz called Garcinia Cambogia Extract “the newest, fastest fat buster — one of the least expensive too.”

He said, “It may be the simple solution you’ve been looking for to bust your body’s fat for good.

Dr. Oz then interviewed Dr. Julie Chen, who asserted that Garcinia Cambogia may boost the rate of weight loss to two to three times the rate of just diet and exercise.

Before it became a weight loss supplement, this extract of the rind of the tamarind fruit had already traditionally been used in cooking and for medicinal purposes. “It’s been around for a long time, which makes me comfortable … about its safety,” said Dr. Oz. 

Dr. Chen explained that studies suggest certain benefits of Garcinia Cambogia. It blocks carbohydrates from turning to fat and also increases serotonin levels, which improves mood and sleep.

Additionally, it helps manage levels of cortisol, the stress hormone that can contribute to belly fat. Dr. Oz said, “When I look through some of this research, call these scientists themselves, I get excited!”

Dr. Chen and Dr. Oz used a model to show how nutrients pass through the liver. They poured liquid into a container representing the liver. The liquid may go down one of two tubes.

Dr. Oz said that, for many, the liver mostly produces the enzymes to convert sugars to fat. To demonstrate this, the model had a plug blocking the tube representing energy and no cork in the tube leading to a balloon representing a fat cell.

Garcinia Cambogia CholesterolGarcinia Cambogia blocks the enzyme (citrate lyase) that converts carbs to fat, thus “putting a cork” into the pathway to the fat cells and “uncorking” the path to energy.

Dr. Oz said that Garcinia Cambogia “uncorks that pathway that allows you to convert that sugar into energy … and by doing that, your fat cells can begin to shrink out their material, convert into energy. … Now even if you eat sugar … you are unable, because of the Garcinia Cambogia, to make more of that fat cell.”

He said research shows that Garcinia Cambogia can increase good cholesterol, decrease bad cholesterol, and improve insulin resistance.

Dr. Oz also warns that you may not see as much weight loss at first because people using Garcinia Cambogia tend to increase their lean muscle mass while losing fat.
